The United States of Amero Union is a huge, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by Chairman Brander III with an even hand, and renowned for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 937 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked morass -- is effectively ruled by the Department of Defence, with areas such as the Environment and Public Transport receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Amero square. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 23%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Chairman Brander III has just been declared ruler of Amero Union in an international press conference, child labor has been outlawed, the nanny industry has had a boom after maternity leave was recently banned, and criminals are put to death while cuddling their favourite teddy bear. Crime is pervasive. Amero Union's national animal is the eagle, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Amero.
